Replace or Update?

Sometimes you just gotta do what you envision you wanna do.

Before…

I had wanted to change the look of our old, country dining room table, chairs and hutch instead of buying new furniture. I was tired of the dated look. I envisioned that the table, chairs and hutch could use some new color. Our current house has a lot of stainless steel and gray accents which inspired my new color choice.

I bought some charcoal gray chalk paint to update the set for a fraction of the price of buying a new dining set. I decided not to distress the chalk paint because the old white paint already had a natural aged look, and I loved how the charcoal looked next to the old white paint.

I decided the old, wood knobs on the hutch had to go, so I visited one of my favorite stores, Hobby Lobby. I found some antiqued silver/glass knobs to add to the hutch. The new look took our old dining set to a whole new level.

I love it!

Design Problem Solved…

We bought a new construction house in 2016. We didn’t get to pick fixtures, colors, or other touches. We were only allowed to pick the exterior colors based on 3 choices offered by the builder, and we were able to pick the finish on the fixtures.

Turns out the house had a bathroom faucet design problem we didn’t notice until after we closed. The water flow ran too close to the sink rim. This made it hard to wash your hands so close to the sink bowl and if the water was running slow, it would flow onto the countertop. This was a big problem when the grandchildren came to visit, we would end up with water on the floor!

We shopped for a faucet with a longer reach, and replaced the faucet.

Problem solved!

Now the water flows into the middle of the sink bowl and doesn’t hit the countertop!

And I really like the new faucet look better than the original. Win! Win!

Meal Time…

Rustic Country Market Living is focused on the home, so I couldn’t exclude home cooked meal time from my journal.

We live in a busy world. Many people juggle careers and family. Meal Time can be the center of life in a home. It can be a time when family and friends engage in one on one conversation while sharing a meal. That’s why the trend toward meal kit services caught my eye. My husband and I go out to eat too often, just so we can have time together without work. Planning our meals in advance and not having to spend the time shopping for the ingredients could be a huge time saver. It could also reduce that all too frequent question, “What do you want for dinner?” Granted, having to prepare our meal could be perceived as work, but we think it could be time well spent together!

I decided to try different meal kit services, and I want to share my experiences with the ones I try with you.

  2. Sun Basket

Got Roses?

25th Wedding Anniversary Flowers

Red roses symbolize love and they are typically given on a special occasion. I received the roses pictured above this year on my 25th Wedding Anniversary. They were pretty and they smelled wonderful. Sadly, roses don’t last forever; but what if I want to keep them for memory sake???

What do you do when the roses given to you start to wilt? Do you toss them in the trash? Do you keep them until all the rose petals fall off? Do you wish you could keep them longer?

When I want to keep my roses, all I do is bunch them together before the petals start dropping off and hang them upside down . Once they are dried out, I can put them in a vase and enjoy them a lot longer!
